Saving Animals

The purpose for which both Darjeeling and Kalimpong Animal Shelter were established

To negotiate with the Municipalities of Kalimpong and Darjeeling so that a spay-neuter programme could be started in both towns, thereby bringing to a halt the cruel, slow poisoning of street dogs with strychnine. For decades now both Kalimpong and Darjeeling Municipalities have supported KAS and DAS and the ABC (Animal Birth Control) programmes. We wish to thank the Municipalities for their support and assistance. When there have been difficult situations both municipalities have always been willing to consult with Dr. Deo Pandey, vet in charge of both shelters, and for decades now, no dog has been poisoned by the Municipality in either Kalimpong or Darjeeling.

Needless to say, once both the shelters were established, people flocked with their animals for treatment, vaccination, spaying and surrender of pets. Both shelters have also conducted vigorous rescue programmes, in vehicles donated by the Kindness Trust. We are fortunate that One Voice, France funds DAS and KAS is funded by Animaux Secours, France.
