Kalimpong Animal Shelter now has a state-of-the-art Operating Theatre (thanks to Animaux Secours). This is of great welfare benefit because it means that animals can undergo blood tests and x-ray examinations. For example, one dog’s blood was analysed and Dr. Deo Pandey was able to determine the dog had an infection, and therefore he should not operate for a couple of days until the dog had been given antibiotics to get rid of the infection. Now street dogs and owner dogs can be treated for fractured legs, urinary calculi, pyometra, kidney, liver and pancreatic issues. There is also an x-ray machine and we are fortunate that Alain DuPont, a French Builder, has volunteered his time freely to construct this resource.
