    August at Kalimpong Animal Shelter was filled with routine activities. Despite the week-long Independence Day celebrations in town, the dedicated KAS team remained focused on their duties. They ensured all animals were well-fed and provided with veterinary care when needed.

    The clinic has witnessed a surge in outpatient visits, primarily due to an increase in canine viral illnesses known as Parvovirus affecting dogs, esp., during the cold winter months. The clinical team has been diligently addressing these cases, leading to significant recovery rates.

    November witnessed the celebration of the auspicious Hindu festival’ Deepawali’ also known as the festival of lights. On this joyous occasion, dogs too had their special day known as Kukur Tihar – a traditional Nepali festival dedicated to honouring and worshipping dogs for their intrinsic qualities- love, companionship, loyalty, and commitment.

    Clinical cases have reduced as the weather is slowly taking its turn in Kalimpong. Parvovirus cases are less seen than before and the good news is that – there has been a 90 percent recovery in dogs affected with canine parvovirus.
