The number of clinical cases has increased at Kalimpong Animal Shelter as the viral disease – canine Parvovirus and Distemper is active. Although the viral disease was active all year round this time, which is pretty weird, it looks like the cases will double up in these cold winter months.
Dogs if vaccinated against this disease have a better chance to fight the virus as they build immunity. But they too sometimes catch the virus. Recovery rates in those inoculated dogs are better than those that are not.
The KAS team has been treating the sick animals and doing their best to help those that have chances of recovery. Dogs with acute problems are handled by the Vet, Dr. Deo.
